KOLKATA: Lemon Tree Hotel Company a chain of upscale, midscale and economy hotels will be throwing open its gates to the East with new properties lined up in the area.
“We are expanding in the east of India by way of an owned upscale hotel in Kolkata and two managed midscale hotels, one each in Siliguri (50 rooms) and Gangtok, Sikkim (80 rooms). Besides this, we are also looking at entering strategic destinations like Asansol, Bhubaneswar, and Mirik,” saidCyrus Madan, vice president-business development, Lemon Tree Hotels.
Scheduled for 2018 the Rajarhat property in Kolkata is slated to be an upscale Lemon Tree Premier and will comprise 150 rooms. Talking of opportunities in the east Madan said, “West Bengal is the sixth-largest contributor to India's net domestic product and boasts of lesser explored tourist destinations, flora and fauna. We see great potential in entering into the gateway of the east.”
Presently, with 40 hotels in 23 cities of India, Lemon Tree plans to spread their wings in un-penetrated business locations as well as leisure destinations like those in the east.
“By 2019, our aim is to own and operate over 8000 rooms in 60 hotels across 40 major cities of India,” added Madan. Some of these locations include places like Ahmedabad, Aurangabad, Aligarh, Alwar, Bandhavgarh, Bengaluru, Bhiwadi, Chandigarh, Chennai, Coimbatore, Dehradun, Dahej, Gangtok, Ghaziabad, Gurugram and Goa.
